Came back from the West to depressing news on the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. We learned a lot about him, and the sacrifices he made throughout our education journey, and even a blind guy will realise the sacrifices he has made for our country. I never had the chance to know him personally, but I've always felt proud to be sharing the same surname as our late forefather. :')
So whenever I jaywalk mindlessly and people say "You think your grandfather's road ah?!"
I'm like "YES. IT IS."
I don't think any amount of words will be able to describe this sense of emptiness within everyone. Scrolling through social media has been quite a torture. I guess most of us knew it was a matter of time, but who knew that when it really happened, it will hit us this hard?
Thank you for giving me the liberty to hang out in the wee hours of the night in shorts and singlet, and yet still feel safe at the same time. Thank you for providing us with a world class education that is recognised internationally. Thank you for letting my parents feel that Singapore is a good place to bring a child up. Thank you for giving up your life for everyone - those who admire and those who mindlessly hate you. For they say "it's a good thing to have enemies, it means you have stood up for something in your life."
And lastly, may you be reunited with your wife on the flipside. <3
